Welcome to Head Start!

Welcome to Head Start!!!!

Staff have been anxiously preparing the classroom and busy discussing new plans and ideas for the children.   As the first week is about to start, I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce the  classroom staff to your family. So here goes:

My name is Ms. Jamie and I am the lead teacher in the Hutchinson 1 Classroom.  I am absolutely blessed to have the opportunity to teach your child this year.  I have spent most of my life in Hutchinson, but did live in Faribault for about 8 years.  There I went to college, worked at a local preschool, ran a daycare from my home and even worked in curriculum development and management at a preschool.  I moved back to Hutchinson over 8 years ago, with my 3 daughters ages 9, 11 and 14.  The girls are extremely active between dance, hockey, swimming and softball the summers, so they really keep me on my toes!!!  As a family we enjoy camping, going to the lake, visiting Grandma and Grandpa’s house and having movie theatre nights at our house (shutting off all the lights in the house and snuggling up on the couch)!  My hobbies include reading, crafting/sewing, utilizing Pinterest and being active in the Relay for Life!

During your son/daughter’s year with Head Start, he/she will experience many new things and build upon skills they already have.  The academic things we work on include naming letters of the alphabet and knowing the sound each letter makes, following directions, counting and recognizing numerals and writing.  Important parts of our day include large group where we read stories, have discussions about what we are learning, sing and dance!  We will always have time during the day when your son/daughter can have “free play” or “choice time”  this is a time for them to select activities of their choice to play and learn from.

As parents, you are your child’s first and  most important teacher.  We welcome parent volunteers into the classroom at anytime, just let Ms. Jamie know!  Please visit our blog regularly to read newsletters on the parent page, check out pictures on the photo gallery page, see what we have been investigating on the topic of study page or view artwork, projects and creations on the student gallery page. There are important links about your child's development on the parent page, safe, educational and fun activities for childen in the kids korner page and a current calendar for the month under the calendar of events, so you never miss out on anything fun or important! I willd do my best to keep the blog up to date often during the week, so that you always know what we doing in the room, important events and exciting pictures about what we have been learning in preschool!

~Blessings~

Ms. Jamie
